Design of the new microbioreactor system
A design for the new plate-based bioreactor system has been developed. It is based on the specifications developed as a part of earlier phase. The designed cultivation volume is higher than 2 mL. The system is designed to allow high throughput and will integrate a liquid handling system. Oxygen transfer into the system and shear stress imposed on the cells during agitation have been considered. To minimise the shear forces, a shaker system with surface aeration was chosen. In this system no bubbles occur, allowing to reduce the cell damage. Another step to lower the shear stress for the cells was is the selection of a round geometry for the reactor wells.
