Optical O2 Probe and Sensor Spots for Long-Term Measurements
In mammalian cell culture, the monitoring and controlling of dissolved oxygen (DO) is important to ensure stable cell growth and process reproducibility. Deviations from the desired levels can affect cell growth, viability and product quality. The monitoring and controlling of DO level require precise oxygen sensors, that are implementable into bioreactors and deliver reliable data over long cultivation periods.
In a collaboration between iConsensus WP4 partners PreSens and GSK, the performance of Presens optical sensor spots and steel oxygen probe OXYPro® was evaluated by an industry partner GSK. Unlike the conventional oxygen measurements, the sensor spots were unaffected by the O2 sparges. The measured oxygen values trended with reference measurements and no drift was detected.
